تأسست مدارس الظهران الأهلية سنة 1977 من قبل الأستاذ خالد والدكتورة سالي التركي كمدارس غير ربحية نذرت نفسها لتقديم تعليم متميز باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية.،تهدف المدارس أيضًا إلى تطوير أفضل الممارسات، والمواد، والمدرسين الذين يستطيعون المساهمة في تطوير التربية والتعليم في العالم العربي على نطاق أوسع .يمكن القول إن تاريخ مدارس الظهران الأهلية دخل في عصر جديد في سنة 2008، أي بدء الثلاثينية الثانية للمدارس، وبداية المنهج الدولي. وستحتاج المدارس إلى وقت للاستفادة بشكل كامل من الفرص الجديدة المتاحة لها ولطلابها. وقد تشجعت المدارس كثيرًا عندما أخذ طلابها يسافرون إلى الخارج للمشاركة في المعارض العلمية الدولية، ومسابقات الروبوت، ونموذج الأمم المتحدة،
